Come and join us for the annual Drakensberg Polar Bear Swim Challenge. It is a swim event that takes place every year in June. All in aid of providing food and shelter to animals in need.
The Drakensberg Polar Bear Swim Challenge started back in the early 2000s at Dragons Peak Mountain Resort. It has since grown into a popular event that draws a number of brave swimmers every year!
Polar Bear Swims are not unique to the Drakensberg and they tend to be held in winter. Participants jump into the rather chilly water and swim a distance. With this event in the Drakensberg, participants swim across the dam at Dragons Peak.
Polar Bear Swims are usually held to raise money for a charitable organization. The Drakensberg event is held to support animal rescue shelters that are a refuge for abandoned and surrendered animals.
There are loads of wonderful prizes to be won and you definitely don’t want to miss out! The event takes place at Dragons Peak Dam in the Central Drakensberg, a mere 10-minute drive from The Nest Hotel.
This year there will also be entertainment for children and a crafters market, Waka-Waka.
