Autumn in the Drakensberg Mountains is a magical time of year. The greenery starts transforming into different hues of orange and cosmos wildflowers pop up in the fields and along the roadside. It is a familiar sight that many know well! March is the signal that Autumn is fast approaching and the start of cooler weather. There is less chance of afternoon thundershowers and the welcome relief of crisp air.
The Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Mountains are described as having “exceptional natural beauty” and we must agree. While we know there are many mountains in South Africa, our opinion is that the Drakensberg Range is amongst the most impressive. Now imagine that same range showing off her autumn colours with glistening streams and expansive landscape. For this reason (and many others) Autumn highlights the start of the peak hiking season.
Activities increase in popularity in Autumn, with the arrival of cooler weather. The adventurous head out on longer hikes and with so many routes to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice! In fact, you don’t even need to wander far as we have some scenic walks starting from our Reception.
While we have not yet said goodbye to Summer, we do look forward to the arrival of Autumn in the Drakensberg Mountains. And if you have not yet planned your Easter break or Mother’s Day Treat, consider a weekend in the Drakensberg. With unparalleled beauty, cosy evenings, and a multitude of activities to choose from, you will not be disappointed!
