Activities focused on birding in the Central Drakensberg
Falcon Ridge is a Bird of Prey Centre in the Champagne Valley, located on the R600, Cathkin Park. The Centre offers visitors an insight into falconry with informative shows that are well worth a visit. Furthermore, Falcon Ridge includes large birds rehabilitated from injury, and provides an excellent opportunity to see these magnificent birds in action.
The Vulture Restaurant is a supplemental feeding site which is used to provide vultures with reliable, non-contaminated food sources. Located in Giants Castle, this is a prime location to see vultures feed and to observe them from the viewing hide. Reservations are required in advance through Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Central Reservations.
Hlatikulu Crane Sanctuary is located at Hlatikulu Vlei, Giant’s Castle. It is a rescue, rehabilitation and captive breeding facility for blue crane, wattled crane and grey crowned crane.
