At The Nest Hotel, we’ve always believed that hospitality is about more than just great meals and comfortable rooms — it’s about people, stories, and the spirit of sharing. Over the years, we’ve been lucky to host some truly remarkable individuals through the Workaway programme — spirited travellers from South Africa and across the globe who stay with us in exchange for a few hours of work each day.

These Workawayers have brought a delightful mix of skills and energy into our world. From baking warm breads and sweet treats in our kitchen, to freshening up our gardens with colourful blooms, painting murals, removing invasive plants, and lending a hand with DIY projects — every one of them has left a unique mark on The Nest.

But this experience is about more than work. We encourage our Workawayers to explore the Drakensberg, hike our trails, meet our local community, and learn about our culture and way of life. In return, we learn from theirs — hearing about their countries, careers, languages, and life philosophies over a shared meal or a sunset walk.

It’s a beautiful exchange — one that turns strangers into friends and creates a sense of connection that transcends borders.

As described by Workaway International South Africa:
“Your journey with us is more than a job; it’s a passport to a world of possibilities.”

We couldn’t agree more. At The Nest, every Workawayer brings a new perspective, a new story, and a little something special — and we’re grateful for each and every one.

So next time you visit, don’t be surprised if you hear an accent from across the globe or spot a hand-painted sign tucked into the garden path. That’s just one of our Workawayers, making The Nest a little brighter.
