“It always seems impossible until it is done” Nelson Mandela. One of my favourite quotes to refer to, especially in troubled times.
To say we were challenged with the recent spate of events is an understatement! The hand we were dealt was not a fair hand yet we chose to overcome and rise to the challenge. If anything, we witnessed the true spirit of the South African people and it humbles me…
Our life in the mountains has returned to some kind of normality. The roads are all open and policed, deliveries have resumed and we are stocking up again. There are some things that don’t change and I am forever grateful to our little sanctuary in the Central Drakensberg. We have the freedom of wide-open spaces and places to walk in nature. There is abundant fresh air, albeit on the chilly side. In fact, we are expecting freezing temperatures and possibly some snowfall by the end of this week.
There is a whole lot of truth in the healing effects of mother nature. It is an antidote for stress, stimulating blood flow, reducing anxiety and improving the mood. Not everyone has the opportunity to escape the city, to regroup and rebalance. But if you can, do it! Immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature, take a deep breath and stop to appreciate the beauty that surrounds you.
We are looking forward to welcoming guests back this weekend. Our hotel is indeed open and our fridges are almost full. Activities in the valley have resumed and there is plenty open space to social distance.
From management and staff at The Nest Hotel, we wish you well and hope to see you soon. Stay safe!
